With a new season of public lectures beginning at Newcastle University, we're happy to introduce our University Events programme where you can find events tailored to you: from lectures to literary talks, free concerts, poetry festivals, panel discussions, and more.

Insights and events
Newcastle University Events Autumn-Winter programme is now available, shining a spotlight on the many educational events taking place around the university. Most of the events are free to attend, though they may require a prior booking, and all take place on or within walking distance of campus.
These events aren't limited to university students – anyone with a desire to learn is welcome to attend.
Events at Newcastle University
INSIGHTS Public Lectures
From economic experts to award-winning writers, many academics in the top of their fields have joined us at Newcastle University to share in their knowledge and understanding of the world around us. INSIGHTS Public Lectures are free and open to anyone who wants to learn.
Past INSIGHTS speakers have included:
- Patrice Lawrence – writer, journalist, and current Children’s Laureate
- Grayson Perry – artist, writer, and broadcaster
- John Bercow – former Speaker of the House of Commons
- Sinéad Morrissey – T. S. Eliot Prize award-winning poet
LIVE in the King's Hall
If you love music, there are plenty of opportunities to listen to live music at Newcastle University for free. Enjoy our LIVE in the King's Hall lunchtime concerts and you’ll also be supporting our talented students as they showcase their early works.
LIVE in the King's Hall lunchtime concerts take place on Thursdays in the Armstrong Building. Concerts start at 13:15 and last for around 45 minutes. Student performances take place each Thursday at 16:00 in the King's Hall.
Concerts at King's Hall provide an opportunity for anyone to listen to our students showcasing their early compositions.
Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts (NCLA)
If you want to delve deeper into the literary world, events by the Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts (NCLA) are for you. Every semester, NCLA hosts events and lectures putting you in touch with the brightest stars in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and literary thinking today, as well as hosting events such as the Newcastle Poetry Festival and the annual PEN Lecture.
Past NCLA guests have included writer and director Tina Gharavi, poet and playwright Dame Carol Ann Duffy, and writer and former Children's Laureate, Dame Malorie Blackman.
From Newcastle Podcast
The From Newcastle Podcast is a fortnightly podcast discussing the latest developments in health, science, and culture and the creative arts from around the university and beyond. Each episode features world-leading academics and their research, exploring topics such as economic advancements in the North East, the rise of AI, and showcasing successful start-ups from Newcastle University students.
Farrell Centre
From its prime location in the centre of Newcastle, the stunning Farrell Centre was opened to ensure everyone has a voice when debating the future of architecture and planning.
The Farrell Centre was named after the late Sir Terry Farrell – Newcastle University alumnus and award-winning planner-architect whose projects included Charing Cross Station, the Home Office Building, and The International Centre for Life. Guest speakers and exhibitors at the Farrell Centre have included George Clarke, Nichola Barrington-Leach, and Sarah Wigglesworth.
